These have been anything but the “lazy days” of summer when it comes to National and State issues! Nationally, three separate legislative efforts put forth by the 110th Congress, threaten your Constitutional freedoms of speech and religion. 

These freedoms started eroding with the 1947 U.S. Supreme Court case of Everson v. Board of Education, so this should come as no surprise.  (This decision legislated, ‘Separation of Church and State.’)

However, the surprise is that Congress’ unconstitutional power grab strategy has been so overtly open!   The strategy is to minimize the voice of Christians and institutions with a Biblical Christian worldview.   Does this seem alarmist?  Take notice the evidence is here!

The first action of the 110th Congress, Senate Bill 1, was titled, “Grassroots Lobbying Reform.”  This would have made it very difficult for national and local groups, like SDFPC, to educate constituents about the actions of elected officials.  

Second, the next assault on our Freedom of Speech has come in the form of the Fairness Doctrine.  For example, this archaic idea, will force radio stations with a conservative talk show to offer a balanced response from an opposing liberal position.  Can you imagine a Christian station that supports pro-life, traditional marriage, and religious freedom being mandated to offer the counter anti-Christian arguments on each?

Third, the recent passage of Federal Hate Crimes, “Thought Crimes,” is a frontal attack on the last institution that stands opposed to the radical homosexual activists agenda, the Body of Christ.  This is serious and ought to gravely concern us all.
