Interesting adversaries
Within the halls of the capitol some of SDFPC's most formidable opponents are tax-payer funded lobbyists. These are the folks that work in the Governors office, Department of Education, Department of Health, Department of Social Services.
It's a little like the small school team playing the large school in football. The larger school has enough players that you have a defensive squad and a whole new bunch that play offense. Of course you have the small school with lots of guys playing both sides of the ball and special teams. As I'm covering the covering the floor on one issue there can be any number of a dozen lobbyists hitting the other issues. So its fun!
It's always interesting to see them strategizing with outside power lobbyists on things like Government School for 3&4 year olds. I've wondered why they would oppose amending our Adoption laws to be more efficient for moms, dads and babies?? Their argument might be their lack of funding, but they fail to consider their current inefficiences lead to their lack of funding.
Don't get me wrong, I love the challenge of coming up against formidable opponents. This is the way it is and for more than forty years people like Kitty Werthman have kept the pedal down. Please keep our pro-family, pro-life groups in your prayers that we would be a strong witness in our words and actions.
It's been a good session. There's still more to do, like lobby one of our bills just after the government lobbyist leaves the room! Blessings.
